How to play Iceberg
Iceberg is a free browser trivia game about finding uncommon answers. Your crab starts at the tip of an iceberg. Every point takes it one meter deeper.
The daily dive
Everyone gets the same eight questions each day. A question might ask you to name a tree, an extinct animal or a means of transportation. Type an answer that fits the category and submit it. There is no question timer in the daily game.
The next daily puzzle arrives at 00:00 UTC. Finish all eight questions before then to extend your streak, regardless of your score. An unfinished daily dive expires at the reset.
Answers and attempts
Each question uses a prepared answer list. You have up to three attempts to find a listed answer. A correct answer locks in your score. An unrecognized answer uses one attempt; after three misses, the question earns zero. You can also skip.
Capitalization does not matter. If the game suggests a spelling correction or matches an alternate name, it updates the answer box. Submit again to confirm that answer. A correction suggestion does not use an attempt.
A valid answer can still be missing from the list. Report missing answers to [email protected] so the library can improve.
Scoring and depth
Listed answers have fixed niche scores. Familiar answers generally earn fewer points, while specialist or obscure answers earn more. Aliases share the score of the same stored answer.
One point equals one meter. Eight questions give a theoretical maximum of 8,000 meters, although the available answers can make a day's maximum lower. Daily results show your depth, the average depth and a distribution of completed dives for that puzzle.
“Better than X% of divers” compares your score with other completed dives. Equal scores do not count as beaten. The comparison includes players who did not submit leaderboard initials.
Unlimited and training
Unlimited mode lets you choose a difficulty from 1, Beginner, to 5, Extreme. Each dive has eight questions. Training keeps the crab at the tip while you answer as many questions as you like and build up a practice depth. You can end an unlimited dive from its controls.
Multiplayer rooms
Host a room and share its code with friends. Players join with three-letter initials and answer the same eight questions together. The host chooses the difficulty and a time limit from 15 to 180 seconds per question. Standings appear between rounds.
Ranked matchmaking requires an account. Two players compete on one question with 30 seconds to answer. The higher niche score wins the match and affects aura.
Accounts and devices
You can start the daily game without an account. Create an account with a username and password to sync your saved game data across devices and enter ranked matchmaking. Browser-only progress depends on keeping the saved player identity.
Iceberg works in a modern phone, tablet or desktop browser. Settings include sound, volume, reduced motion and increased contrast.
